WhatsOnWhen Site Builds and Hosting Solutions
WhatsOnWhen has spent over four years evolving our standards-based syndication and whitebranding platform for delivering content as co-branded sites in the look and feel of a wide range of companies. This system allows us a great deal of depth and variance in how we can present our own content, the content of the partners we have integrated, and transparent integration of third-party content from remote services.
In addition, WhatsOnWhen has integrated a wide range of third party content providers and linked that content into our existing worldwide location hierarchy, allowing third party content to be seen alongside event content and others; for example, an event in Brisbane can show the weather at that location, as well as provide navigation into any of the miniguide, Lonely Planet, or other horizontally integrated content groups. We are flexible, and always willing to consider the integration of additional third-party content to provide a better aggregated system for your site. Our capabilities currently include:
- Event Information
Event details, global and regional highlights, random and tailored spotlights on events and regions, advanced search capabilities, and editorially-selected highlights; - Integration
low-impact JavaScript-based event feeds can link client sites into their branded, hosted solution, enabling transparent and deep linking of event content into client websites; - Landing Pages
Destination-specific miniguides, resort guides, and points of interest, or third-party third party content from Lonely Planet, Rough Guide, or Columbus. - Advertising
Our hosted platform enables our clients to provide tight integration between the content on the screen and the associated advertising with the page. Our ad services support targeting advertising not only geographically to users in specific parts of the world, but based on the locations, categories, keywords, and events on the page viewed, enabling highly focused delivery of ads that are context sensitive to the user's interests. - Weather Information
Forecasts and current conditions, retrieved from Intellicast, provide us with up-to-date weather information for thousands of locations across the globe. Forecasts are updated every three hours; current conditions are updated every half hour. These forecasts and conditions are linked directly to our location hierarchy, enabling tight integration of weather data for any region in the world. - Direct Access From Popular Software
The ASP service provides a tightly integrated WebDAV (Web Folders) implementation, allowing customers direct access to all static content responsible for making up the site from a variety of applications and operating systems, including Linux (Gnome VFS, nautilus, neon, and davfs), Mac OS X (Dreamweaver, Adobe GoLive, and direct mount via the Finder), and Windows (Dreamweaver, Adobe GoLive, and WebDrive are supported; Microsoft Web Folders is unsupported, but may work depending on the version of Office installed on the system being tested.
Custom Integration
We are always happy to build and integrate custom features for hosted solutions; today, we provide built-in support for integration of hotel information (geocoding support and features are limited to specific areas of the world), flight data, and others. We accept feeds through a variety of mechanisms, and can even build solutions which live-query remote systems based on XML searches or SOAP queries.
We have a robust system for pulling in parts of navigation, images, and blocks of content from remote systems, enabling our customers to keep their important navigation, javascript, ads, and other important page content on their own servers while transparently proxying and caching that content to eliminate performance bottlenecks. Customers are always encouraged by us to host certain types of information, such as navigation, on their own systems so that when they modify it for their own site, it automatically updates their hosted solution here at WhatsOnWhen, ensuring a tight integration of look and feel.
