WhatsOnWhen's delivery infrastructure is based on a resilient and fault-tolerant platform that has evolved over several years of delivering hosting and XML solutions. The service is capable of delivering high-volume whitebrands in the look and feel of the customer's own website, as well as up-to-the-moment XML feeds of our core content.

Documentation on our Hosted Solutions Platform and our XML feeds have been provided to assist you during your discovery phases of project planning and help you understand all of our technical capabilities.

Managed Service Delivery

WhatsOnWhen's XML and Hosting services are designed to meet the demanding needs of high-profile travel and portal sites worldwide. Clients of our hosting platform, totalling millions of page views a month, reap the benefits of our platform to get the fastest possible time to market; customers of our XML feeds use the same, stable infrastructure produced to fit the needs of those hosting services to retrieve XML feeds and content streams.

Software Architecture

Delivery Architecture

Our delivery architecture is a highly configurable syndication engine, capable of integrating user-managed static content, feed data, event information, landing pages in the content provider of the client's choice, dynamic image maps that incorporate live database content into rollovers and navigation content, as well as a broad range of other information and related content.

We provide clients with design expertise, domain knowledge, the ability to provide fully scalable implementations, and XML feed delivery, tailored to the individual needs of the client.

Delivery Infrastructure

WhatsOnWhen has engineered both its hosting and its feed services to ensure high availability, high throughput, and data security. Data is cached at multiple levels, both within the application and on standalone, distributed caches which provide high-throughput access to the most commonly accessed data across all services.

Data Flow

Our application, hosted at EasyNet's 1bricklane facilities, less than 100m away from our offices, has high-capacity delivery to a broad range of UK and international networks through EasyNet's well-managed core network. Locked and carefully monitored, our data is kept safe and monitored at all times for problems.

The applications that provide our services, are fully load-balanced. Important data is held on managed RAID disk arrays, across three application servers; RAID systems are used anywhere critical, unique data is held, and in situations where we wish to ensure system availability. The service network is designed to be easily extended; if load issues arise, or new customer demands are placed on the network, new machines can be added in just a few hours.
